We opened with our annual <em>Twelfth Night on Twelfth Night<\/em>. After working on this play seven times, I am <em>still<\/em> learning new things about it!<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3516\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MESSINA3004 (Much Ado About Nothing)<\/span><\/a><br \/>\nFebruary:<\/strong> I joined Otherworld Theatre for <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3516\">MESSINA3004<\/a>: A Dystopian Retelling of Much Ado About Nothing<\/em>. I played an especially nebbishy Leonato.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3802\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3627\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3802\" class=\"wp-image-3802 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/WW-007-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"WW 007\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3802\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3627\">The Wayward Women<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3627\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">THE WAYWARD WOMEN (Or: Nothing To Do)<\/span><\/a><br \/>\nMarch-April<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/wethreeplays.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">We Three <\/a>debuted\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3627\">The Wayward Women (or: Nothing To Do)<\/a><\/em>, a new Elizabethan Comedy about gender roles, post-war peacetime, and good ol&#8217; fashioned doin&#8217; it!<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c\u00a0I cannot recommend this show enough\u2026 It is original, playful, hilarious<span data-reactid=\".175.1:5:1:$comment932885233420025_932956766746205:0.0.$right.0.$left.0.0.1.$comment-body.0.$end:0:$text2:0\">\u2026 A solid 4 out of 4 stars.<\/span>\u201d \u2013 Patrick Bushnell<\/h5>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AS YOU LIKE IT<\/span><br \/>\nApril<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrehearsedchicago.com\">Unrehearsed<\/a> staged\u00a0<em>As You Like It<\/em> for the first time in Chicago. For the second time in my life, I got to perform &#8220;All the world&#8217;s a stage,&#8221; this time with the Duke Senior as a visual aid!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">[THUS DIE I]<\/span><br \/>\nApril<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrehearsedchicago.com\">Unrehearsed<\/a> joined Two Pence Theatre for [Thus Die I], a celebration of all things Shakespeare and Death. April 23rd, in commemoration of the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare&#8217;s lamented demise. After an evening of depressing death scenes, we were happy to add some levity with Pyramus &amp; Thisbe. And I got to fulfill a twenty-year ambition by portraying Wall!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UNREHEARSED SHAKESPEARE WORKSHOP<\/span><br \/>\nMay &#8211; June<\/strong>: Back by popular demand,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrehearsedchicago.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Unrehearsed Shakespeare<\/a>\u00a0held another workshop, recruiting student performers for Hamlet Unrehearsed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4052\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3907\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4052\" class=\"wp-image-4052 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/13442578_10153540911706176_1259975988484907929_o-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Elizabeth Bathory (Mary-Kate Arnold) with Kate (Aiyanna Wade), at the height of her power. Photo by iNDie Grant Productions\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4052\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3907\">Countess Bathory<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/?page_id=3907\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">COUNTESS BATHORY<\/span><\/a><br \/>\nJune<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wethreeplays.com\">We Three<\/a>\u00a0struck\u00a0again with\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/wethreeplays.com\/countess-bathory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Countess Bathory<\/a>, <\/em>an Elizabethan tragedy about the infamous &#8220;Blood Countess,&#8221; who allegedly bathed in the blood of her virgin serving girls to maintain her legendary beauty.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cGO SEE THIS PLAY!!\u00a0Gorgeous writing and truly exceptional acting. Mary Kate Arnold brings the \u00a0countess fully to life, imbuing her with a humanity and beauty that \u00a0makes her actions all the more believable and horrifying. But you might wanna leave the kiddies at home. It is brutal, intense, tension so thick you could cut it with a knife (might take a couple passes even). Immediately following my interview, <em>The Wayward Women<\/em>&#8216;s Act 2, Scene 1 was performed, featuring Adrian Garcia, Gilly Guire, Alexandra Boroff, and Katy Jenkins reprising their original roles. My interview featured some gratifyingly boisterous laughter (especially from one particularly appreciative audience member), though this was soon dwarfed by the reaction to the scene itself. Admittedly, it&#8217;s easy to get a reaction in a scene where the characters talk almost exclusively about sex.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POLYXENA IN ORBIT \/ BUTCHER BOGGLE<br \/>\nOctober<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otherworldtheatre.org\/\">Otherworld Theatre<\/a> hosted its 2nd annual PARAGON play festival, the largest Sci-Fi\/Fantasy play festival in the world! My play\u00a0<em>Butcher Boggle, <\/em>a parable about moral relativism, was\u00a0just one of the 40 plays that were staged. I also directed\u00a0Stuart Bousel&#8217;s <em>Polyxena in Orbit<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-4410 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jaredmcdaris.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/hel-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"hel\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>HELL<br \/>\nOctober<\/strong>: The <a href=\"http:\/\/accidentalshakespeare.com\/index.php\/upcoming-events\/upton-sinclair-s-hell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Accidental Shakespeare<\/a> Company presented a staged reading of Upton Sinclaire&#8217;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/accidentalshakespeare.com\/index.php\/upcoming-events\/upton-sinclair-s-hell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hell<\/a>,<\/em> a darkly comic indictment of contemporary capitalism that is still sadly relevant today. I was blessed to double as Mammon, the devil of Greed who takes over the management of Earth, and &#8220;Big&#8221; Bill Haywood, a coal miner and socialist revolutionary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEAMPUNK CHRISTMAS CAROL<br \/>\nDecember<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/edgeoforion.com\/\">EDGE Theatre<\/a> produced my <em>Steampunk Christmas Carol<\/em> (and this time, I got to direct!) in rep with Commedia Beauregard&#8217;s <em>A Klingon Christmas Carol<\/em>. Much sci-fi! So Holiday! It was a remarkably warm and reassuring production with many of my favorite artists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KING LEAR UNREHEARSED<br \/>\nDecember<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unrehearsedchicago.com\">Unrehearsed<\/a> closed its fourth season with King Lear!
